Second Disability Studies Fall School was held on 19-21 September
The Disability Studies Fall School is a 3-day training program for graduate level social science students specialized in disability studies. Bogazici University Social Policy Forum organized the Second Fall School in collaboration with Research Worldwide Istanbul and Raoul Wallenberg Institute.
The Disability Studies Fall School have received 59 completed applications from 20 provinces in Turkey. Among these applications, 16 of them were male and 43 of them were female and 18 were enrolled in a PhD programme, while 41 of them were enrolled in a Master’s programme.
The number of selected participants were 17; whereas 4 of them were male and 13 of them were female. Among 17 participants, 9 participants were enrolled in a PhD programme and 8 participants were enrolled in a Master’s programme. While 8 participants were from Istanbul, 9 came from six other provinces including Ankara, Diyarbakır, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, İzmir and Muğla. The graduate programmes that they were enrolled varied including social services, law, special education, disability studies, sociology.
The training programme was comprised of different modules based on different disciplinary approaches to disability studies. These disciplines included law, educational sciences, social policy, sociology, politics, architecture and medicine. On the third day, all participants presented their research abstracts and received feedback from both the teaching staff and other participants.
Instructors of training are faculty members from different universities from the law, education, architecture, medicine and social sciences departments. One of the instructors is working as a part of a civil society organization.
